I love our house because we’ve managed to create spaces to suit everyone and I love how we’ve managed to create a style that’s really unique to us. We have a three-story house and the ground floor was originally a dining room and a kitchen (with a lounge on the middle floor), but we’ve created a banquette seating area with super storage in our kitchen, which has allowed us to transform the old dining room into a family room. We’ve then kept the lounge on the middle floor as an adults-only sanctuary after the kids have gone to bed! Heaven!

The kitchen diner with bi-fold access to the garden is the hub of the home and we love to entertain here for dinner parties, BBQs, and kids’ birthday parties, too. We’ve been known to host movie nights in the garden, have an epic Day of the Dead-themed Halloween party (which spread throughout the whole of the ground floor into a tent in the garden), and create an enchanted fairy party complete with magical canopy made from an old football net and tulle!

I pass the time with brand styling projects for clients or doing craft projects with the kids and introducing new decor by upcycling or DIY  accessories, which I share on my blog ohsokel.com .

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: It’s really transitional with pastel and boho touches.

Inspiration: I take inspiration from everywhere! A lot of our recent updates were inspired by our trip to Florida over New Year, hence the Miami and Palm Beach tropical vibes kitchen and photo gallery wall of our trip in the family room.

Favorite Element: Our kitchen and banquette because it’s the hub of the house. It’s light and bright, it’s perfect for entertaining, and it has the perfect light for styling and shooting tablescapes, too.

Biggest Challenge: We never wanted a three-story house but we definitely wanted a separate family room just for kids, and due to budget this was our compromise. Because we’ve created such a workable space on the ground floor with our kitchen banquette (and replacing the dining room with a family room), I actually really love the fact that on our middle floor we have a room that the kids never go in!

Proudest DIY: I upcycled an £11 pine fire surround from eBay and placed it on a kitchen wine rack with the slats removed, then filled the space with logs. I’ve never had so many questions or comments on social media! I’m really happy with the focal point it’s created in our family room. Likewise with the £12 fire surround we’ve painted mint green and put in the garden.

Biggest Indulgence: The plantation shutters we’ve had installed in every room. I love them and they were totally worth it!

Best Advice: Never forget about storage when planning a scheme!

What’s your best home secret? I’m obsessed with the rhubarb cleaning spray by Method; every time I use it someone comments when they walk through the door. When planning a room scheme then going shopping for decor, I tend to use one piece of decor to work out from such as a cushion or a piece of art. It really helps to choose colours and stay within the style.
