Prime Day 2020 is here and the deals just don’t stop coming. Although we've seen dozens of TV discounts so far, there aren’t all too many we’d recommend – but this Philips deal is one that we don’t mind shouting about. The Philips PUS8545 58in 4K TV has a list price of £749, which isn’t too bad for a mid-range Philips Ambilight TV of this size. However, for Prime Day only, Amazon Prime members can pick one up for only £575 – a whopping £174 off its RRP.

The Philips PUS8545 runs the latest version of Android TV, through which you can access an entire world of streaming from the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Apple TV and many more besides. It also carries Freeview Play, granting access to every free UK catch-up app from BBC iPlayer through to My5. Google Assistant voice search is on hand to help you find what you’re after with as little as effort as possible, and the TV can also interact with any Amazon Alexa devices you may have at home.
HDR (High Dynamic Range) support is impressive, with complete coverage for HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and the broadcast-friendly Hybrid Log-Gamma. Whatever the source of your 4K HDR movies, shows or games, the PUS8545 will be able to display them in impactful 4K HDR.
And if you happen to be watching content from a non-4K source, the TV’s P5 Picture Perfect Engine will upscale it to Ultra HD in an instant. Dolby Atmos surround sound and DTS-HD are also supported, in case you have a soundbar or surround-sound system.
Now onto Philips' not-so-secret weapon: Ambilight. The PUS8545 has a three-sided implementation of Philips’ Ambilight, a bias lighting system that adapts to the action on-screen to create greater levels of immersion while also working to combat eye fatigue. When Ambilight TVs first hit the market, some felt that it sounded like a bit of a gimmick, but Philps has proven the cynics wrong. Ambilight really does enhance the viewing experience, offering something totally unique to its rival TV brands.

The PUS8454 has a healthy range of connections for all your devices, including four HDMI 2.0 inputs, an optical output for AV receivers, two USB ports and an Ethernet jack. Planning on a spot of gaming? The PUS8545 has a dedicated Game Mode that dials down the picture processing in favour of quicker response times, a seriously helpful feature for fast-paced online games like Call of Duty and Fortnite where a few milliseconds of input lag can make all the difference
At £575, Philips PUS8545 58in is absolutely stonking value for money, but it won’t be at this price for long.
