If you’ve gone all-in on Alexa for your home, then an Echo Show is the next logical step. Now you don’t just have to hear Alexa’s voice, but can also see things illustrated on a bright little touchscreen. Normally the Echo Show 5 costs £80, and while Amazon is selling it for £70 in its Bank Holiday weekend sale , another store has got it beat. John Lewis & Partners is selling two Echo Show 5s for £115 . It’s available in white or black , though sadly you can’t mix and match. For those unfamiliar with the Echo Show, it’s essentially a way of getting an Alexa-powered smart speaker with a screen. That means you can ask it to play videos with the power of your voice (useful for recipes in the kitchen) as well as make video calls and so on. It really comes into its own if you have smart cameras or a Ring doorbell, where you can check in on them with a live feed streamed straight to your Show. When Jon reviewed it, its main selling point was clearly the price, and there are drawbacks with this cheaper hardware. As Jon wrote in his review, while it’s “quite pleasant to listen to at medium to low volume levels”, it’s no rival to a dedicated smart speaker. It works best as a bedside clock or desk speaker for quieter environments, rather than your chosen music player. But for the price, Jon could find very little to complain about. “At a price of £80, even with its limitations, the Echo Show 5 is a steal,” he concluded. “Not quite a cast-iron five-star bargain, perhaps, but a very good value smart speaker indeed.” With John Lewis’ bundle, that price comes down to £57.48 per Show, so even better value. If you have a need for two smart screens, you shouldn’t think twice. Buy now from John Lewis
